The Laureates of Tomorrow - Nobel
Essay Contest
Enthused by the monument and what is symbolizes, the Consulate General of Sweden in 2005 initiated a time-limited essay contest to inspire New York high school students to strive for the level of achievement represented by the Nobel Prize and to envision the possibility of one day having their own names engraved onto the monument. The Laureates of Tomorrow – Nobel Essay Contest has been a three-year project by the Consulate General of Sweden in New York, The New York Academy of Sciences and Nobelprize.org – the official website of the Nobel Foundation, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Education and the City University of New York. For the past three years, the essay competition has attracted hundreds of students eager to win the Grand Prize: an all-expenses-paid trip to Sweden to attend the Nobel Festivities. The essay competition has been discontinued, and the last three winners traveled to Sweden in December 2007.
